The Viral Tag Train is still in motion

Improve your Rankings and Google PR with ViralTags

Thanks to a slight modification to a great idea from the creator of ViraLinks, Andy Coates, Jimmy Huen of Founder’s Cafe created Viral Tags to help increase traffic to your site. The directions are simple and self-explanatory, but be sure to copy and paste the following information from the blog that you are reading - in this case, mine - to make sure the viral effect does what is intended. And my thanks to Andy and Jimmy (and of course my good friend Jason) for getting this party started!

Instructions:

1.) Copy and paste the matrix of â€œViralTagsâ€ below courtesy of Static ThinkBox, Inner88 by Jason A Clark, and Jimmy Huen over at Founderâ€™s Cafe.

2.) Substitute the Host Tag and one of the â€œViral Tagsâ€ in the matrix with your anchor text of choice and your blogâ€™s URL. Please keep anchor text to a maximum of 3 words to keep the matrix size manageable.

3.) When you get a ping back from someone that has your link in one of their â€œViral Tags,â€ practice being a friendly part of the blogging community by copying his/her Host Tagâ€™s anchor text (automatically the associated link will also be copied) and paste it over one of your â€œViral Tagsâ€ below.

4.) Encourage and invite your readers to do exactly what youâ€™re doing now.

5.) Keep in mind that porn sites are not really welcomed in this link exchange. We also ask that you not tamper with other peopleâ€™s links cause thatâ€™s not cool. Be cool.

Important: Once I get a ping back from you I will add your anchor text and the associated link you designate as â€œHost Tagâ€ here on my page, replacing one of the â€œViralTagsâ€ from the matrix above. As more and more bloggers copy and paste this matrix, the more backlinks you will have with your anchor text. I think I read somewhere that pages with more than 100 links are considered unreliable by Technorati and don’t count towards your Authority Rating? Have you seen that to be true?

Thanks Roger for your question!

Personally, I have not seen that to be true, not yet anyway. I have just moved my blog to my own hosted site, so I will put your question to the test and check the progress to see what happens in the near future now that the move is complete from wordpress.com, so my previous ranking is gone.

After about 24 hours since Technorati was set up with this site, here are my current stats:
Authority: 1
Rank: 3,900,217

Yeah, awesome, I know! But give me some time, because my previous ranking was around 19,200 with Authority almost 300 in less than a month. So I have no doubt the Viral system works. I’ll go ahead and commit to a weekly update for you.

Yep, it surprised me too. It turns out that Google and other search engines may penalize you for taking part in a viral linking campaign. So instead of your site climbing up the search results, it could actually plummet.
Because of this Iâ€™m removing ViraLink and ViralTags from this blog. I urge others whoâ€™ve taken part to do the same. I hate to do it, because I like seeing my Technorati Authority increase, but I have to. Iâ€™ll have to build links the old fashioned way, by improving my site, keeping it updated and making it something worth searching for.â€

Well, Roger, if you ever check back… let me give a quick update…

In about 2 1/2 weeks from starting fresh, my Technorati Rating has increased to Authority 11 and Rank of 586,265 so there has been obvious improvement with more to come as this week I will be working on actually asking all these links to update my old one to this new site so we will see how next weekend looks after that’s accomplished depending on how many trustworthy bloggers there are out there…
