Little Baby ThinkBox Update (10 Weeks)
By Jeff | August 20, 2007
My wife is considered to be 10 weeks into her pregnancy. The following information about the development of Little Baby ThinkBox is taken from eMedTV as I find their site easy to use and understand for the purposes of this blog. Picture is taken from Pregnancy.org.
During week 10, Little Baby ThinkBox’s brain is growing at a rapid pace. It will produce about 250,000 neurons every minute. Baby ThinkBox is now about 1.25 to 1.68 inches long and weighs approximately 0.18 ounces (equal to the weight of a quarter).
Week 10 of pregnancy is somewhat of a milestone because the body plan for the baby has been laid out and most things are present — just in miniature form.
Specific developments that typically occur during week 10 of pregnancy include the following:
- The baby’s eyelids are no longer transparent
- The outer ears start to assume their final form
- Tooth buds begin to form
- The testes will start producing the male hormone testosterone in males (Yay!!!!)
- Your baby will have fully separated fingers and toes
- The embryonic tail will have disappeared completely
- The bones of your baby’s skeleton will have begun to form
- The eyes have moved from the sides of the head closer to the front of the face
- The palate and the roof of the mouth form
- The stomach moves into its final position
- Taste buds begin to form
- Neck muscles are forming
- The clitoris appears in females, and the ovaries begin to descend (What????)
- The two lobes of the lungs extend into many tiny tubes (bronchioles)
- The diaphragm begins to separate the heart and lungs from the stomach.
At 10 weeks pregnant, momma has gone through some changes as well. Some of these changes may include:
- A blotchy complexion
- Moodiness
- Weight gain
- Softening of gums
Where Does the Weight Go?
For women who are carrying one child:
- 7.5 pounds goes to the baby
- 2.0 pounds goes to the uterus (don’t need to know everything)
- 1.5 pounds goes to the placenta (eww)
- 2.0 pounds goes to the breasts (nice)
- 8.0 pounds goes to blood and fluid (ugh)
- 7.0 pounds goes to fat
