Lubbock, TX Takes Third Place in Little League World Championship
By Jeff | August 27, 2007

Congratulations to our hometown heroes, the Western All Stars of Lubbock, TX for playing hard, never giving up, and finishing 3rd in the Little League World Series. Hats off to the team from the state of Georgia for winning the United States and World Championships.
While we wonder what might have been if we had faired better against Georgia, there is no blame placed upon these talented kids as they played their hearts out. Like others across the state of Texas, and the nation for that matter, I will always question the coaches for not starting either of their two available left handed pitchers (Garrett Williams was unavailable due to pitching the game before.) I also question the fact that the pitcher wasn’t pulled when he was getting hit somewhat frequently with runners on 2nd and 3rd with their best hitter at the plate. I could sit here all day and speculate that maybe the coaches were over confident that we would win or that the opponents may have been under-estimated. I will leave my thoughts right there. Ultimately, the coaches made a decision they thought best gave their team a chance to win and that’s all you can ask. If I were coaching, we would not have even been in the Little League World Series, so I lift my hat to the outstanding job demonstrated in preparing them for the tournament.
In the consolation game, Garrett Williams pitched another gem and helped sealed the victory as Lubbock, TX no hit their opponents and won by a score of 1-0. I appreciate all those that have followed my updates and these kids have helped the pride of our city more than they will probably ever know. Thank you, members of the 2007 Lubbock, TX Wester All Stars. We salute the way you represented our city and we wish you great success in your future.

Sounds like the coaches may have made some errors in judgment. Third place is still VERY respectable! Great coverage by the way! I saw a home run from the series on CNN yesterday! I bet that was a great game!

The outcome doesn’t always equal to what was predicted. Still, the coaches are very good and we are just as proud of 3rd in the World as anything else. They are good kids and they represented us well.
