Little Baby ThinkBox Update (22 Weeks)

    By Jeff | November 12, 2007

22 WeeksMy wife is considered to be 22 weeks into her pregnancy. The following information about the development of Little Baby ThinkBox is taken from eMedTV as I find their site easy to use and understand for the purposes of this blog. Picture is taken from Pregnancy.org.

Momma ThinkBox is 22 weeks pregnant, and Little Baby ThinkBox is about 7.6 inches long and weighs about 12.3 ounces. The baby’s muscles are developing and becoming stronger week by week.

During week 22 of pregnancy, Little Baby ThinkBox will respond regularly to sound, rhythm, and melody. The sounds that he (yay!) hears in the womb will soothe him after birth. Many women play their favorite music to their unborn baby as a way to soothe and comfort him or her during pregnancy.
At this point in the pregnancy, Little Baby ThinkBox’s brain and nerve endings are formed just enough so that the he can feel touch! During week 22 of pregnancy, he may experiment with this newfound sense of touch by stroking his face or sucking his thumb. Little Baby ThinkBox may also begin to feel other body parts to see how they move.

Other fetal developments that typically occur during the 22nd week of pregnancy include the following:

Around week 22 of pregnancy, Momma ThinkBox may begin to gain weight more steadily as Little Baby ThinkBox continues to fill out. The extra weight gain may cause additional strain in your lower back. This can be eased by wearing low-heeled shoes and avoiding sitting or standing for long periods of time. A footstool should be used to raise the knees higher than your hips when sitting.

Momma ThinkBox may notice that her uterus starts practicing for delivery with irregular, painless contractions known as Braxton Hicks contractions. This will feel like a sporadic squeezing sensation near the top of the uterus. Braxton Hicks contractions are not dangerous or harmful. However, if the contractions become painful, or if there are more than four contractions in an hour, contact a healthcare provider immediately. Painful, regular contractions may be a sign of preterm labor (see Signs of Labor).

Well folks, it looks like crunch time is practically here. As of the time of this post, the Baby ThinkBox countdown in the upper right corner of this blog shows just over 120 days left (or basically 4 months). Momma ThinkBox is definitely showing now and I overheard my son tell her she had a big tummy. Well, he may have said fat tummy, but we’ll give a 3 year old a pass on that one.
