Little Baby ThinkBox Update (29 Weeks)
By Jeff | December 29, 2007

My wife is considered to be 29 weeks into her pregnancy. The following information about the development of Little Baby ThinkBox is taken from eMedTV as I find their site easy to use and understand for the purposes of this blog. Picture is taken from Baby Gaga.
As Little Baby ThinkBox continues to grow during week 29 of pregnancy, his movements will become more frequent and vigorous. Some of the movements may even take Momma ThinkBox’s breath away! Little Baby ThinkBox should move at least 10 times in one hour. If he moves less than 10 times, the ThinkBox family will be talking to our healthcare provider.
By the 29th week of pregnancy, Baby ThinkBox has learned to use his brain to control primitive breathing. This means that if he is born now, he could probably breathe independently. He is also a lot better at controlling body temperature at this point in the pregnancy.
Other fetal developments that are occurring around week 29 of pregnancy include the following:
- Baby ThinkBox will be able to turn his or her head to find the source of a bright light. He is continuing to become more sensitive to sounds, tastes, and smells.
- The fat layers will continue to form.
- The head is in proportion to the rest of the body.
- The eyes can move in the sockets.
- The bones are fully developed, but they are still soft and pliable.
- The baby will begin to store iron, calcium, and phosphorus.
During week 29 of pregnancy, the baby’s adrenal glands (glands right above the kidneys) will begin to produce hormones such as androgen. These hormones will travel to the placenta and stimulate it to make estrogen. This estrogen will stimulate the body to form the hormone prolactin.
Prolactin is a hormone that will cause you to make colostrum, which is the milk that will feed Little Baby ThinkBox in the first few days after birth, since we have chosen to breastfeed. Colostrum is richer in protein and lower in fat and milk sugar than the breast milk that comes a few days after delivery. It also contains antibodies that may help protect the baby from disease.
Momma ThinkBox body changes:
She may notice experiencing more heartburn. This is caused by the baby and uterus growing larger, pushing up on the stomach. She can try eating smaller meals, and if necessary, taking antacids.
During week 29 of pregnancy she may also experience:
- Itchy skin
- Shortness of breath
- Hemorrhoids (see Hemorrhoids During Pregnancy)
- Leg cramps
- Indigestion
- Achy muscles.
Momma ThinkBox should make sure that she is eating at least 30 milligrams of iron each day during the this third trimester. Iron is important during pregnancy because it can:
- Replenish the red blood cell supply
- Accommodate the demand created by increased blood volume
- Provide the baby with adequate iron stores for the months after birth.
Iron deficiency is common during pregnancy. Therefore, healthcare providers will recommend that moms have blood tests to check their iron level. Most likely, iron supplements will be prescribed if iron levels get too low.
Pregnancy Myth:
True or false: Experiencing heartburn during pregnancy means that your baby will be born with lots of hair.
The answer is FALSE.
