Little Baby ThinkBox Update (34 Weeks)
By Jeff | January 30, 2008
My wife is considered to be 34 weeks into her pregnancy (Only about 7 weeks to go!). The following information about the development of Little Baby ThinkBox is taken from eMedTV as I find their site easy to use and understand for the purposes of this blog. Picture is taken from Pregnancy.org.
During the 34th week of pregnancy, Little Baby ThinkBox is starting to get “as snug as a bug in a rug” — he is most likely in the fetal position (legs curled tightly up to his chest).
If Baby Thinkbox was born now, he would more than likely be all right — he would probably have to be on oxygen, due to his immature lungs and put in an incubator to help maintain body heat, but the most dangerous time to have the baby has passed.
Little Baby ThinkBox now measures about 12.8 inches, crown to rump, and weighs about 5 pounds.
Fetal developments that are occurring this week of pregnancy include the following:
- The skeleton hardens, although the head remains pliable to maneuver through the birth canal
- The skin becomes less red and less wrinkled
- The toenails are present, and the fingernails have reached the tips of the fingers
- He is developing immunities to fight mild infections.
Calcium intake is extremely important during pregnancy, because the baby will draw calcium from Momma ThinkBox, to make and harden his bones. If Momma ThinkBox is not getting enough calcium, her bones and teeth can greatly weaken.
Fatigue is a common complaint from mothers toward the end of the pregnancy. Fatigue at this point in pregnancy is often the result of:
- Aches and pains
- Weight gain
- Anxiety about labor and delivery along with taking care of a newborn.
Toward the end of pregnancy, Momma ThinkBox should rest as much as possible and take naps without relying on caffeine. Too much caffeine can have a negative effect on the baby.
Momma ThinkBox might notice more swelling than before, especially in the ankles, fingers, and face. She should continue to drink lots of fluids (water is best), and rest with feet elevated. If there is sudden, extreme swelling in any of these areas, or a rapid significant weight gain, call a healthcare provider right away. This could be a sign of preeclampsia or toxemia.
Other physical changes that may occur during the 34th week pregnancy include the following:
- Braxton Hicks contractions, in which the uterus hardens and contracts
- Pelvic aches, especially in the back
- A sore rib cage, because the uterus is pushing against the ribs
- A navel that is pushed out because the abdomen is being stretched.
