Project Comment5
By Jeff | February 12, 2008
I began this project last week. The purpose of instigating this project was to increase my readership, increase interaction on this blog, and increase my exposure. This project also forces me to view other blogs that I will no doubt learn things from. It’s simply a common sense move on my part. It’s intended to be pronounced “Project Comments”, but if you prefer “Project Comment 5″ it’s not going to hurt my feelings.

The Premise:
I have committed myself to visiting and commenting on at least 5 blogs a day, 5 days a week. Obviously, this is the significance of using a ‘5′ for the ‘S’.
The Point:
This was created to learn and benefit from others in order to increase my readership, increase interaction on my blog, and to increase my exposure.
I’m using some self-control here as I am only counting blog posts that I deem worthy of a comment from the ThinkBox. Okay, I know that sounds like some kind of ego-trip and I’m being a little facetious here. But I simply mean that it’s not acceptable for me to leave a comment such as “Nice post” or “Good job” and allowing it to count as part of my 5. I also will not comment on a poorly written or sub par post either. It goes both ways. A solid post deserves a solid comment.
I could also just as easily comment on 6 or more posts if time allows or if I just run into that many good articles. There’s also no more NFL games on, so I might even comment 6 days a week. The only rule is that I do at least 5 comments, 5 days a week. That will get me to 25 comments a week, and about 100 comments a month.
Most of my blog matriculation will be through submissions to Blogging Zoom or StumbleUpon. No doubt, some of you have already seen my icon grace your blog’s presence. There have already been countless posts relaying the value of being a good commenter. I’m not going to regurgitate that info here, but I will show some link love to some posts I’ve recently read over this subject.
- Blendworx - simple reminder to make sure your comments intend what you mean them to
- My Way to Success - solid list of good commenting rules to follow for effectiveness
- Fast Blog Finder - well designed and appealing post about reasons for commenting
- TechnoMoney - good post about solid commenting strategy for marketing
- Slyvisions - great info combining commenting and trackbacks for increasing traffic
As you can see, I have also added a Top Commentators widget on the sidebar that is labeled ‘ThinkBox Studs’ to coincide with this project. The title is subject to change depending on whether females can accept the title of Stud. If I can think of a more unisex name, then it may get changed.
It just makes sense that if you visit other blogs, they will visit yours. I’ve been using the excuse in the past that I’m just too busy. But the truth is, I just didn’t want to take the time to do it. So, I devised this project along with a logo (subject to change if I design something better) in order to commit myself to market myself better. I think my content is solid for the most part, I mean, surely I’m not the only one that thinks I’m hilarious. Well, hilarious might be a stretch, but I’ll settle for pretty funny or even somewhat humorous. Just visit and let me know!
Five comments in a day is not very much and I realize this, but it’s more than I was doing before. I have a family, a full-time job, and will be adding another family member very soon, so time is very precious to me. I chose five for the five working days in a week. I give myself the weekend off - Woo Hoo! Twenty-five comments a week should very easily start paying dividends shortly. I think it’s something that everyone can do. Heck, I know a few that surpass 5 comments before they even eat breakfast and their blogs are way more successful than mine. I don’t quite have that kind of luxury, but I can definitely make this feeble attempt to try to increase my readership and exposure.

Feel free to join me in this endeavor. You can use the graphic I’ve designed or design one yourself. As always, a linkback would be appreciated but not necessary. All that I ask if you decide to join me is stay committed and comment, comment, comment. Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks a lot for adding my article to your site.I really appreciate that. I also have the same goal of 5 comments a day and will be starting it on Thursday so I can track the effectiveness of such a campaign over time.
I am still new in this so tracking results is very important to me.
Good luck and I will add the project to my next article.

Having put in the time to make a logo, now you have to follow through with it.

It’s working however. Hopefully, after a full month or so of staying committed, comments will occur even more often.
I definitely appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. That too keeps me motivated.

Very excellent idea. I just became privvy to wordpress and I am loving this software. Anyway, being a new blogger, I have developed a plan for my links and traffic. I am writing a post and than putting out 5-10 comments on blogs that use commentLuv, that way I get great deep reaching links to my site. I just started so I do not know how it is going to work, but I think it might pay some high dividents.
