Little Baby ThinkBox Update (37 Weeks)
By Jeff | February 21, 2008
My wife is considered to be 37 weeks into her pregnancy (Only about 4 weeks to go!). The following information about the development of Little Baby ThinkBox is taken from eMedTV as I find their site easy to use and understand for the purposes of this blog. Picture is taken from Pregnancy.org. Read below for my optional middle names.
Little Baby ThinkBox is now about 14 inches from crown to rump and weighs almost 6½ pounds.
During week 37 of pregnancy, fetal development that is occurring includes the following:
- he continues to develop fat at the rate of half an ounce a day
- he is getting rounder every day
- his skin is getting pinker and losing its wrinkly appearance
- he continues to practice breathing movements.
At this point in pregnancy, if Little Baby ThinkBox is born, he is considered mature. This of course does not mean that he is done developing. For example, during the next couple of weeks, whether inside or outside the womb, he or she will continue to put on fat.
At this point, there should be some bags packed ready for the hospital experience. Here is a good list of things to consider packing:
- Your camera!
- Warm socks.
- A robe and slippers.
- A going-home outfit — keep in mind, you will not be back to your pre-pregnancy shape at this point — bring something loose and comfy that you wore during pregnancy.
- Two old nightgowns that button up the front (for breastfeeding).
- A pair of flat shoes.
- A nursing bra and nipple cream (if you are planning to breastfeed).
- Maternity underwear (your stomach will still be swollen, and you’ll be bleeding heavily after delivery).
- Sanitary napkins, for after the delivery — you should expect to bleed for at least a couple weeks.
- Toiletries.
- A list of people (or your address book) whom you or your spouse will call after delivery, and maybe a calling card, to call out-of-town family members from the hospital (many hospitals do not allow cell phones). Most grocery stores or wholesale warehouses carry these calling cards.
Another bag should have everything that your newborn will need after he is born, such as:
- A going-home outfit for baby!
- A few newborn-size diapers.
- Undershirts that are not onesies — your baby will not be able to wear onesies until their belly button scab falls off.
- Any blankets you want to have there for baby.
Unexpected things happen during labor and delivery. It is important to plan ahead. Your plan should include the following:
- A list of telephone numbers for the hospital and doctor
- Pediatrician’s name and phone number
- Routes to the hospital
- Entrances to the hospital
- Parking lots at the hospital
- A list of phone numbers of the people you want to call
- A roll of change for the telephone or a battery charger for your cell phone
- Mom’s hospital bag and whatever you will need at the hospital
- Infant car seat in the car, ready to go — many fire stations provide certified car seat checks (to make sure you have it installed properly) — the hospital will make sure you have one, before releasing baby to go home.
37 Weeks Pregnant: A Pregnancy Myth
Myth: You can’t get pregnant if you are breastfeeding.
There is no truth to this pregnancy myth. When you are breastfeeding, you usually do not get your period, and therefore do not ovulate right away. It could be a couple months until you get your period again or it could be the entire time you breastfeed — it varies from woman to woman.
When you do resume your regular menstrual cycle for the first time, that first cycle begins with ovulation. This means that you will not know you have ovulated and have the ability to become pregnant.
Talk to your healthcare provider about the mini-pill or other methods of birth control, if you do not want to become pregnant again right away.
Middle Name:
If you have followed this for any amount of time, you know that I have the duty of naming our second son’s middle name. The first name is established. My wife has chosen the name ‘Andrew’ for the first name of our second child. As per our agreement, the middle name is all mine but I think I need some help. I’ve decided that I would like something unique and unusual. However, I also don’t want my son to hate me or blame severe emotional stress because of the middle name. With that in mind, here are some of my current options:
- Andrew Michelangelo
- Andrew Donatello
- Andrew Socrates
- Andrew Plato
- Andrew Master Yoda
- Andrew Paco
- Andrew Rico Suave
- Andrew Samuel L. Jackson (how cool would that be?)
- Andrew Optimus Prime
- Andrew Maximus
- Andrew Octavius
- Andrew LL Cool J
- Andrew the Great
- Andrew the Magnificient
Of course, the latter two would destine him to a life of magic shows in Vegas or a traveling circus act. Obviously, I need some help here or my son is going to have some serious issues. Any suggestions?

Andrew Plato is a good name. It served me well.
(Yes, that is my real name.)
