American Idol Season 7: Top 10 Guys Performances - ThinkBox Style

    By Jeff | February 27, 2008

American Idol 3-1 record logoAs usual with my American Idol series, I’m going to give my honest opinion on how the contestants performed and what they’re real chances are of getting eliminated. My goal is to accurately predict how each week will turn out in regards to who gets cut.

As you can tell from the graphic or my previous Idol post, I predicted correctly three of the four contestants that were cut last week. That was somewhat easy by the performances that were given, but good nonetheless. I’m currently in a contest with Jason of PopCritics.com in that category and we are tied. This is not intended to be a recap of the events or songs that were sung but merely my opinion on their performances. We are now down to the top ten guys. Let’s get to Tuesday’s show.

    Michael JohnsMichael Johns

I don’t know. Didn’t blow me away like his previous performances. I’m not sure if it was the song choice or his vocals or what. I thought it was okay, but I could have done without seeing this performance from him. This is hard for me because I want him to win, but he cannot repeat performances like this. He’s going to move on because of his past performances and because the ladies love him and his charming slightly Australian accent. For all Michael fans, let’s hope this was just an aberration and not a new trend.

    Jason CastroJason Castro

Wow, horrible interviews. Maybe that will help him because it makes him human, but generally people like their “idols” to be coherent or knowledgeable. Hated the performance! It was awful. Hated the song. Paula shut up! You don’t have to be positive all the time. Completely wrong song choice. I think Jason will move on because of his unique hair style and kind of shy innocence, but any more performances like this will put him in serious elimination danger. Jason squeaks by, but I will claim him as a dark horse for possible elimination.

    Luke MenardLuke Menard

The song was kind of fun at first. I was just starting to enjoy it until it got monotonous. It was too high or something. It was definitely a better performance than last week. At least he had a little pop in the song. Last week was horribly boring. We are not on a very good start this show as we really have had three sub par performances from only three contestants. The song was hard to follow and the vocals were not interesting enough to truly believe America will spend money to listen to that high of a voice through an entire CD. Luke is on the potential elimination list with this performance combined with last week. Actually, after listening to the rest of the contestants, Luke is going home as America realizes they would never buy a Luke Menard CD.

    Robbie CarricoRobbie Carrico

After three strikes and the drag racing clip, I was ready to be blown away. C’mon Robbie, do something for me. Damn. I think he started out strong and decent, but somewhere in the middle he fell back into mediocrity. Shut up Paula! I’m beginning to wonder if the song options are actually hurting the contestants, but then again, if you’re good then you should be able to rock out any song. Vocals were okay. I wasn’t impressed, but I didn’t think it sucked. Being safe does allow you to move on however. Robbie should be safe this round.

    Danny NoriegaDanny Noriega

It’s no secret that this guy just plain gets on my nerves. I hate his hair, his facial expressions, his immaturity, and his stupid pout. As much as I hate to say it, I think he did decent vocally, but his performance was still boring. I totally agree that he was thinking too much. It was like he was fixated on the camera. Maybe trying to follow some rehearsed performance face routine he devised. And a big thanks to Simon for increasing his ego about the camera loving him. Well, I don’t love him. Unfortunately for me, he moves on another round. Please America, tell me I’m wrong. Eliminate him.

    david hernandezDavid Hernandez

When will the mediocrity end. Is anyone going to blow us away this week? Something seemed to be off for the entire song for me. The vocals were good and they may have been the best so far as the judges thought. I don’t know. Maybe I just hated the song in general. Or, maybe I’m in some kind of foul mood because of his predecessors. Obviously, David will move on as voters will definitely listen to the judges and maybe even America liked his performance. The live audience seemed to. We will just chalk this up as a slight difference in opinion.

    Jason YeagerJason Yeager

Ladies and Gentlemen, here is a white boy that dances worse than I do. Wow! I was not digging the black shirt, silver belt, and black pants combo. I kept waiting for him to bust out the Carlton dance from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (see video below). I was thinking to myself that he was doing well with the notes, but then even Paula said the song only had a small range of notes. Therefore, I can’t give him credit for choosing an easy song. Jason is in serious jeopardy. Unfortunately for Jason, the remaining performances increased in quality. Jason will be eliminated. There is just nothing of interest in Jason for us to hold onto enough to continue to vote for him.

    ChikezieChikezie

I hated the song. I loved the performance. The whole name mispronunciation interview mixed his song choice seemed to be genius. It obviously made total sense to include his name and it was a fun performance. He had attitude, soul, and it looked like he was having fun and that was fun for me. Simon was right, he did look thinner tonight that last week. Best performance of the night by far so Chikezie easily moves on. Sorry, I could resist.

    David CookDavid Cook

That’s how you rock out a performance. Much better than last week. Maybe it was the guitar, maybe it was the comparison of the other contestants or maybe Chikezie put me in a better mood. I enjoyed David. I even enjoyed his sound. Not crazy about the wink, but then again I think it worked. Simon seemed to have something stuck up his you know what. I didn’t get the impression that David was “reminding” Simon about the rules of the show, but rather that he was reacting to the crowd screaming. But of course, Simon is not one to hold back his thoughts. David lives to rock another round.

    David ArchuletaDavid Archuleta

As predicted, the ladies scream at the mere mention of his name. He’s just so cute. Don’t you just want to squeeze his precious little cheeks. It’s ridiculous really. Of course, if there were millions of ladies screaming at the sound of “Static ThinkBox”, then I would have a different opinion. I thought it was little too slow at the beginning. Um, I’m not sure where the whole dangle from Paula’s rear view mirror comment meant. That seems a little morbid. There is no doubt the guy has talent. He’s cute. His shyness is cute. His innocence is cute. He can have any 12-16 year old girl he wants and probably a few that are older. Archuleta should have no trouble making at least the final four if he keeps this up.

Top Three Performances were in this order:

    1. David Archuleta
    2. Chikezie
    3. David Cook

Top Three in Danger of getting cut

    1. Jason Yeager
    2. Luke Menard
    3. Jason Castro

I’m going to stick with my prediction of Jason and Luke getting cut. I can’t imagine the voters allowing two bad performances to move on. While there were many less than spectacular performances, some of the contestants get a pass based upon their previous performances. However, as there are less contestants, America will soon be less forgiving. Is your opinion different? Let me know. I’m going to leave with a video of one of my favorite funny moments from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The Carlton Dance!

      LOL… I’ve noticed

He does have a certain feminine quality about him. Not that there’s anything wrong with that… or is there?

To me, there’s something wrong with him. I almost want to leave his picture off of this series… hmmm, i just may do that from here on out.

I totally think that David Archuleta deserves to be in the finals. He warms the hearts of all young girls in Singapore and in America. I think that Luke and Jason yagger will be out for sure. If they are not then, there’s something wrong with the voters!

You’re right. Those two were easily the poorest performers and there just isn’t enough in their life story to give America a true reason to vote.

Archuleta is a teenage heartthrob, that’s for sure.

Man, thanks Huiyi for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. I greatly appreciate it.
