Little Baby ThinkBox Update (38 Weeks)
By Jeff | February 28, 2008
My wife is considered to be 38 weeks into her pregnancy (only about 3 weeks to go!). The following information about the development of Little Baby ThinkBox is taken from eMedTV as I find their site easy to use and understand for the purposes of this blog. During week 38 of pregnancy, Momma ThinkBox may be aware of her body rapidly changing, preparing for the birth of the baby! Only 10 percent of women actually have their water break on its own. Many times, the doctor breaks it at the hospital.
Little Baby ThinkBox is about 14 inches from crown to rump. From head to toe, he can measure anywhere from 19 inches to 21 inches. He weighs around 6 pounds, 13 ounces. However, at this point in pregnancy, baby length and weight can vary significantly.
By week 38 of pregnancy, Little Baby ThinkBox is now full term, which means that if he were born today, he would be considered a full-grown baby. Babies who are born prior to week 38 are considered premature.
Fetal development that is occurring around week 38 of pregnancy may include the following:
- He will be growing an ounce a day
- His intestines continue to accumulate meconium (baby’s first bowel movement)
- The circumference of the head and the abdomen are about the same size
- The testicles have descended into the scrotum
***Important contest info: Approximately 88 percent of babies are born within two weeks of their mother’s due date!
There are three kinds of labor:
- Prelabor
- False labor
- Real labor.
Week 38 Pregnancy Myth:
Myth: Sex will induce labor.
While this is a controversial topic, a correlation between sex and the onset of labor has not been medically proven. It is true that semen contains prostaglandins, which can help soften ripen the cervix for labor. Also, when a woman has an orgasm, her body releases oxytocin, which will cause the uterus to contract, helping strengthen it for labor; however, these alone will not bring on labor. Your body will go into labor when it is ready.
