American Idol: Season 7 Cuts to 16 Finalist
By Jeff | February 29, 2008
American Idol Season 7 held their second elimination round on Thursday, February 28th. As was the case last week, two guys and two girls were scheduled to be eliminated. I correctly called three eliminations last week that put me at 75% accuracy. Not bad, but that still leaves me tied with Jason.
As you can see by the graphic, I now have a 5 - 3 record for a 62.5% accuracy rating. There were definitely a few surprises, so let’s see who actually got sent home packing and crying. It also looks like Jason is crying as he only got one elimination correct by my count.
Jason Yeager
This was a no-brainer. There was no captivating story other than a nice father-son relationship. And while that’s a great story, it wasn’t enough to overcome bad performances. At least the exit song gave me a chance to grab some food and drink. Looks like we have some Dr. Pepper and Hamburger Helper leftovers. The food of kings while my wife attended a baby shower. Truthfully, it was really good.
Alexandrea Lushington
What a call! Alexandrea far outperformed Amanda as Amanda gave maybe the worse performance of the season, but I thought Amanda would already have a big enough fan support for her unique sound. I couldn’t handle that performance again, so good news. The Office was back on NBC in prime time. It was a rerun but you can’t get enough of Michael Scott, Dwight Shrute, and Jim Halpert. Of course, Pam Beesley isn’t bad either.
Alaina Whitaker
Are you kidding me? Kady has been terrible every time. I thought Alaina had a chance to be cut, but not in replacement of Kady. Wow! I’m still in shock. For the first time I didn’t change channels. Maybe it’s morbid curiosity, but I was glad she decided to sing or I would have reemed her. It’s pretty sad already and obviously the weight of her dreams relying on the show were manifested, but that doesn’t matter. You need to leave in dignity, so it’s a good thing the girls seem to be a close-knit group. I think they were both shocked to be honest. Kady seemed to expect to go home. I have nothing else to say, but… wow!
Robbie Carrico
Another shocker. I’m not surprised that Robbie got cut, I just didn’t expect it this week obviously. Luke is skating along and I can’t really figure out why. He’s not entertaining. He fails at picking songs. He gives boring performances. I can only think that maybe the worst performers are getting a high amount of votes from a similar campaign to what happened in the past. If that’s the case, I may have to alter my strategy a bit. We’ll see what next week brings.
As you can see, I missed on the elimination predictions of Kady and Luke. Don’t despair though, because they have absolutely zero chance of winning and will be cut soon enough. I would have rather have been wrong on Danny Noriega than Robbie, but that’s just my personal opinion. Kady has been awful two weeks in a row and I can’t imagine anything other than her humor and looks are getting her by. I guess those 16-?? men were a more powerful group than I realized as they were able to give her enough votes (barely) to stay another week.
It is definitely time to step up for these contestants. You’ve got to bring it to stay in the competition. The weak are getting filtered out at a relatively rapid pace so there’s a smaller and smaller margin of error available for missed notes, poor song selections, and boring overall performances. Tune in next week to see who is able to heed the advice of the judges and begin to take control of this season of American Idol.

Yeah, I guess Jason and his other Grease fans should have voted for her more.
That was a bit of a shocker since she was out instead of Kady who has been dreadful except for her Britney impersonation.
