American Idol Season 7: Top 8 Guys Performances - ThinkBox Style

    By Jeff | March 5, 2008

american idol 5-3 prediction record As usual with my American Idol series, I’m going to give my honest opinion on how the contestants performed and what they’re real chances are of getting eliminated. My goal is to accurately predict how each week will turn out in regards to who gets cut.

My competition with Jason of Pop Critics is beginning to heat up as I now possess a slight edge in our side contest. Jason is 4-4 (or 50%) in guessing who will get cut while I am 5-3 (or 62.5%). Still, it’s only a one contestant difference so anything can happen. It’s time to either step up or lose my lead. Let’s check out what happened in Tuesday’s show with the remaining top 8 guys.

    Luke MenardLuke Menard

America, why did you allow this guy to move on from last week when he is clearly the weakest competitor remaining - well, other than Danny. Because you’re voting for the worst, that’s why. Well, Luke, if your strategy is to be the worst every week, it is working like a charm. You have been the most consistent performer so far. No roller coaster performances. No ups and downs. It’s all been pretty much rock bottom and yet here you still are. I can’t stand your whiny voice and America would be hard pressed to spend more than 50 cents on a CD with you on it. I actually kind of like the song by Wham, but I hated your performance. Definite candidate for elimination.

    David ArchuletaDavid Archuleta

What can I say? I thought his everlasting cuteness would propel him pretty far. Little did I know this guy had serious talent. Serious talent. I’m don’t agree with Simon’s sad songs comment and I seriously doubt America agrees either. O-M-G Paula! Shut up! Let the Paula mutes begin. I just can’t take her incoherent, irrelevant ramblings about how great everyone is even though a lot of them suck. It wasn’t my favorite David performance, but there is little doubt that he will keep his front runner status for awhile. David obviously moves on without issue.

I love Tainted Love. That’s on my list of my favorite 80’s songs. That being said, Danny butchered it. I hated it. I hated the purple strands of hair. The attitude, while annoying, is kind of funny sometimes though, but Danny sucks. On the other hand, this mute Paula project when she speaks works great. I feel like I’m not wasting my life by not listening to her. After three performances, one being horrible, Danny definitely had the worst performance of the night so far. As you can see, there is no picture of Danny as I’m boycotting him on this site as mentioned earlier on a comment. I’ve decided to go through with it. I’m not going to alter any of my previous posts, but from here on out - his mug shot is out. I can’t stand that guy. I don’t know how this guy can go much further.

    david hernandezDavid Hernandez

Wow! The alledged gay stripper (unconfirmed rumor with pretty good teeth) does some Celine Dion. I advised against doing Celine in an earlier post, but that was more for the girls. I have to admit that I thought it was pretty good - especially for an alledged gay stripper (not that there’s anything wrong with that - well there may be some biblical issues with that). Anyway, I enjoyed his performance. I mean, I would have never guessed he would try something that hard. “That’s what HE said!” I’m sorry, I had to do it. I love The Office. Anyway, David did a pretty good job. I doubt the gay stripper rumor will really hurt much. David will live another week.

    Michael JohnsMichael Johns

Another strong performance from an early favorite to win the competition. I agree with Randy in that he is choosing some pretty good songs for his style and voice. It wasn’t my favorite of Michael’s. I think Bohemian Rhapsody is still his best. He does seem to be losing a slight grip on his favorite status however as some other performers are starting to step up and Michael seems to be standing still. We’ll see if Michael will take it to the next level like some of the others are. He will easily move on this week.

    David CookDavid Cook

Well, I believe I said something along the lines of “He’s going to need to do that time and time again to get me to cross over into a fan however.” He did exactly “that” again. The best performance of the night by far. I absolutely loved it. I love Lionel Ritchie. I’ve got a ton of fond memories growing up listening to his songs. David’s rendition of the song was brilliant. If he made a single of it, I would buy it in a heartbeat. I just hope he doesn’t have his face on the cover, because I still hate his hair. Luckily, I wouldn’t have to look at his hair when jamming it out on an MP3 player. David has now become a new dark horse to win and he’s turning me into a fan.

    Jason CastroJason Castro

Nice song choice. I love Shrek along with my son. Someone will have to work with him about closing his eyes during performances. What am I thinking? I forgot to mute Paula. It was working so nicely. SHUT UP! Much better. I totally agree with Simon in that this was Jason’s best performance of the entire process up to this point. Wow! Now we are finally starting to see the strength of this year’s contestants. This has been a much stronger night of performances (save a couple of losers) than week’s past. It appears America is finally weeding out the weak. Let’s just hope the Vote for the Worst campaign can be overruled this week.

    ChikezieChikezie

It was a little boring to be honest. I like the song and his vocals were strong, but something was missing. It wasn’t interesting nor impressive. I’m not sure I can put a finger on it. He has strong vocals. There is no doubt that Chikezie can bust it out. There is just something in the performance that is either missing or off that doesn’t allow me to enjoy the song like I should. There is actually a chance that Chikezie could be saying goodbye this week.

Top Three Performances were in this order:

    1. David Cook
    2. Jason Castro
    3. David Archuleta

Top Three in Danger of getting cut

    1. Danny Noriega
    2. Luke Menard
    3. Chikezie

I’ve got a sick feeling in my stomach. It’s clear that Danny and Luke had the worst performances of the night, yet we have seen the worst performers move on in Luke and Kady of last week. Will the campaign continue? How long will the Vote for the Worst campaign last? It kills me, but it just might last another week. So, I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is that Luke will for sure get eliminated this week. The bad news is that Danny will not. Once again, I will go with my gut feeling and pick Chikezie to hit the road even though it is clear it should not be his time.

Chikezie has no chance to win at this point so it’s not that big of a deal. The fact that Danny will remain is a big deal - for me anyway. Stupid obnoxious Americans. Why do things like votefortheworst.com unite us? You’re killing me! This is one pick where I definitely hope I’m wrong.

Take a moment to check out Jason’s thoughts in American Idol 2008 - Top 8 Men Performances to see what he thinks as we prepare for another week of elimination predictions. Please note that we write these reviews prior to knowing what the other has posted.
