American Idol Season 7: Top 8 Girls Performances - ThinkBox Style
By Jeff | March 6, 2008
As usual with my American Idol series, I’m going to give my honest opinion on how the contestants performed and what they’re real chances are of getting eliminated. My goal is to accurately predict how each week will turn out in regards to who gets cut.
My competition with Jason of Pop Critics is beginning to heat up as I now possess a slight edge in our side contest. Jason is 4-4 (or 50%) in guessing who will get cut while I am 5-3 (or 62.5%). Still, it’s only a one contestant difference so anything can happen. It’s time to either step up or lose my lead. Let’s check out what happened in Wednesday’s show with the remaining top 8 girls.
Asia’h Epperson
What is she wearing? Those are horrible pants. Ouch! Asia’h, yeah, not so much. This was easily her worst performance of the entire process in my opinion. I didn’t like it at all. I’m torn with Asia’h and I think I know why now. She reminds me of a girl I used to work with who was a hoochie. One of those girls who seem to use their attractiveness to get attention from the managers to distract so they don’t quite see that she sucks at her job. Anyway, I didn’t like the performance, I didn’t like the pants, but I enjoy looking at her. Asia’h will have no issue moving on regardless of my opinion of her.
Kady Malloy
Kady admits to being surprised she is still in the competition. I didn’t notice some shock on her face when she wasn’t the one eliminated. Well tonight was easily her best performance. That’s not saying much. Still, it wasn’t that great. The song choice sucked. She sucks. She has zero chance of winning. Maybe this is the week that Kady finally goes home where she belongs. Great “Stepford Wives” comment from Simon.
Amanda Overmyer
Did I say how much I love her bandanna look? I think I did and I’m saying it again. The Glamour Shots/ Bride of Frankenstein look was gone and that was a good thing. Excellent song choice. I’m not a fan of Amanda’s at all, but that was a solid performance. Amanda goes from being the worst last week to probably the best performer of the girls. Obviously, Amanda found a way to buy another week and possibly more if she can some more like that.
Carly Smithson
Does anyone else have an issue with her name? It doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue with ease. Wow! She was one of my favorites to win on the girls side, but I didn’t like her performance at all. I hate those style of pants. Something was missing. Maybe it was the song choice as Simon was saying, but I wasn’t feeling it. For me, it started rough, got better, went rough again, and then finished pretty strong. Nonetheless, Carly should move on without issue.
Kristy Lee Cook
As soon as the piano played the second note, I was excited. I recognized the song that was about to be sung and I guess, somewhere in the bowels of my memory there is a special place for that song. Journey rocks! A part of me enjoyed the country twang and the other part of me didn’t. It was good enough for Kristy to survive another week.
Ramiele Malubay
I don’t know. It wasn’t that great. I’m getting a little discouraged here. The guys once again far outperformed the girls save one (Amanda). Maybe Ramiele will stay or maybe she’ll go. I’ll decide later. Let’s move on.
Brooke White
Brooke, why are you sitting down? On the edge of the stage nonetheless. How are you going to get up without looking awkward. The guitar in the background is kinda cool. The performance was interesting. I actually enjoy her sound and style. It was just the wrong song choice, I think. I don’t know. I didn’t hate it, but it wasn’t as awesome as last week for Brooke. Still, her unique style is almost Jewel-like in an odd way and that I do like. I doubt America will vote her off this week.
Syesha Mercado
Decent performance. It’s Whitney Houston again which I previously advised against and I still advise against it. She did a decent job, but when you try to impersonate Whitney, you come off looking like an imposter. That’s just the way it is. Ultimately, Syesha should move on based upon her vocals and past performances.
Top Three Performances were in this order:
- Amanda Overmeyer
- Carly Smithson
- Syesha Mercado
Top Three in Danger of getting cut
- Kady Malloy
- Kristy Lee Cook
- Ramiele Malubay
So there you go. I have to agree with Jason from his Top 8 Guys performances recap where he said we could just disregard the girls and just stick with the guys this season. I’m not sure about the rules on the Final Two, but if it’s a girl and a guy, the guy is going to win hands down. The top performers was very tough to sort out because there were so many middle of the road. I could have easily interchanged them for another.
Well, it’s time to pick who will get eliminated. Kady once again gets my vote. She was horrible two weeks ago. She was horrible last week. She was better but still bad this week. Kady should already be gone and for sure goes home this week. America can’t take it anymore.
My other pick was not so easy. There are several girls that have no shot of winning and picking when exactly they will go home is going to be tough. This week I’m going to take a chance on Ramiele. I know she seems like a sweetheart. But I didn’t even write anything about her this week. So it must have been a forgettable performance. I don’t even remember what she sung and I don’t care to research it to find out. There you have it. My official elimination picks for the girls are Kady (for real this time) and Ramiele.

I just wasn’t feelin’ it as they say in the ‘hood. I thought her performance was awesome last week.
I do like her unique sound and style though, so if she were to make a CD there would be a chance I would get it.

Well, we didn’t agree this week, that’s for sure. I mean, Kady’s at the bottom, but that was obvious. Our top picks are very dissimilar. You might be right about Ramiele going, but I think I have chosen more wisely this week and will tie us up.
By the way, once we get into the top 10 or 12 (can’t remember), the men and women combine and then it’s every person for themselves. The girls could all go first if they really suck - they won’t, but they could.

Yeah, except that I just noticed that I forgot to claim my Top performers and Low performers. I’ll have to get that posted on my lunch break.
Kady has been obvious for some time. I can’t see Asia’h going home. She looks good and has performed well in the past. She can’t win, but she will not be cut this time. That’s my opinion, obviously.
Get ready to fall further behind.

What are you talking about, looking good? You said Asia’h looked like a hoochie.
I’ve got this one in the bag.

She looks like a girl that I worked with who was a hoochie. I didn’t necessarily say she looked like a hoochie.
But maybe she is a hoochie. I don’t know and don’t care. Asia’h will not win and she will not be cut this week.

Hoochie is a great word…
By the way, love your Paula quote

Thanks! I had to get my heavy ‘drink on’ to get into her character.
My wife says I can’t do that again…

…on the bright side, at least she didn’t say you’re suffering from a “massive lack of personality.”
